Jurassic League…What am I looking at here, and why do I love it?

Written by: Daniel Patino

DC Comics… we gotta talk about something here.

Look man, I’m not going to sit here and tell you I’m some massive critic or meaningful voice you should hinge your purchasing or interest in this comic on…

I’m not going to tell you I’ve read most of Daniel Warren Johnson and Juan Gedeon’s works. (The two creatives behind this prehistoric undertaking).

And I’m certainly not going to tell you that I have any insider information on this comic run that would lead to me either recommending or detracting it.

Im just a guy who writes, reads, and enjoys comic books, graphic novels, and the visual medium of story-telling in general. I love it so much I’m giving my comics away for free. (See those fancy covers to the right).

And because of this fact, I felt it was my duty to comment on this upcoming series. One in which the world renowned “Justice League”. Staffed by the likes of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and more. Transition into the “Jurassic League”.

Your favorite DC heros (and some of your favorite villains) are now anthropomorphized Dinosaurs.

The question is…How do you feel about that?

If your anything like me, then the mere prospect of this bombastic, absolutely, flabbergasting, ridiculous concept has you feeling…

Like a kid in a goddamn candy shop.

Look, I get it, I have no reason to be this excited for the prospect of “Jurassic league”. I’ve never read the works of either of its creators AND I know startlingly little about it aside from its general aesthetic and premise.

But I’ll be damned… That alone is enough to get my “monkey brain” hooting and hollering. This idea is so insane, so bewildering…but its also genius. How on earth am I supposed to forget about this after hearing about it? How am I expected to just go on about my daily labors and not wonder just what the hell kind of story is going to be told here? Once the mere premise of the Jurassic league enters your mind, once you see the incredible artwork for yourself… How are you supposed to not be curious, excited, embarrassed, or anxious about this concept?

Batman is an Allosaurus called “Batsaur” for god’s sake. and he is fighting a magnificently stylized rendition of the Joker. Who is now a dilophosaurus with the iconic clown’s color scheme emblazoned across his figure.

This is either going to be REALLY good, or…hell, even if this comic winds up being terrible. Even if it ends up being one of the worst things ever put to paper. The mere idea alone, the artwork, the concepts… They’d be enough to make this run worth taking a look at.

It takes some serious cojones – And hopefully a firm and inspired narrative plan- to pitch this concept. And I would be lying if I said I wasn’t excited to see where this crazy train ends up.

Who knows, maybe in 3 years we’ll be seeing Chris Pratt staring as “Supersaur”, with Christian Bale coming to to Play “Batsaur”… Perhaps Joaquin Phoenix steps in to play the “Joke-saur”. The options are endless and I just cant wait to see what happens with this bright new idea.
